What is a “Concussive Brain Injury”?

A concussive brain injury, commonly referred to as a concussion, occurs when the brain experiences trauma due to a sudden blow, bump, or jolt to the head or body. This impact causes the brain to move rapidly within the skull, leading to various neurological symptoms. These symptoms can include headache, confusion, dizziness, nausea, memory problems, sensitivity to light or noise, and in some cases, loss of consciousness.

Concussions can result from various incidents such as sports-related injuries, falls, car accidents, or physical assaults. While most concussions are considered mild and typically resolve on their own with rest and symptom management, repeated concussions or severe cases can lead to long-term complications and should be taken seriously. It’s important for individuals who have sustained a concussion to seek medical evaluation and follow appropriate protocols for recovery to prevent further injury or complications.
